Animal control is provided by the Rabies Control Division of the St. Louis County Department of Health, and the supplementary services of private companies. Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times and enforcement of this law is strict. The county also has a "pooper scooper" law which requires clean up after your dog allowing everyone to enjoy the parks, streets and sidewalks. Pet licenses are not required by the City of Clayton.

Taxing Information
St. Louis County, City of Clayton and Clayton School District real estate tax bills are mailed about the first of October each year by the county to the owner of record as of the first day of January. If you purchased your home after January 1, the tax bill may be mailed to the previous home owner. Nevertheless, you are liable for its payment. If you do not receive a tax bill by December 15, please call the St. Louis County Collector's office at 615-5500, Collector of Revenue at 615-2641.
In order to purchase a state automobile license, you must be on the county's personal property tax rolls. Call the county at 615-5500 or visit the Personal Property Office at 41 South Central Avenue for placement on the tax rolls or to obtain a waiver if you did not reside in St. Louis County on January 1. You may obtain a personal property tax waiver for the current year. There is no personal property tax on household goods.

Clayton residents may register to vote in local, state and national elections at the St. Louis County Library, Clayton Branch (7821 Maryland Avenue), or at the St. Louis County Government Center at 41 South Central Avenue. Residents must be at least 18 years of age, and are not eligible to vote until 28 days after registering. Residents may also register to vote at the City Clerk's office at City Hall during regular business hours.
