All Night Operations Provide Completely Passable Roadways in Clayton
February 11, 2011
CLAYTON, Missouri . . . following three inches of recorded snow fall, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, all streets, alleyways and parking lots were treated and plowed a minimum of three times and were completely passable.
In anticipation of the predicted three to six inch snow fall by 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 10, Clayton’s Public Works crews had treated all arterial and residential streets, alleyways and City-owned parking lots with road salt and liquid calcium chloride. When the snow fall intensified at 9:30 p.m., eight trucks resumed treating the streets and alleyways. Each treatment operation took approximately three hours. Continuous snowfall, falling ambient and road temperatures created a perfect scenario for snow to accumulate. At approximately 11 p.m., crews were split up to plow in tandem (2 trucks per crew 4 crews) to maintain safe and drivable roadways and alleyways. Two additional trucks were working in an independent operation. These operations continued throughout the night and morning hours.
Light flurries continued during the morning hours causing glazing on streets and alleyways which were constantly monitored by Clayton’s Public Works crews.
