Clayton Is Designated StormReady

Clayton, MO . . .  at the January 11, 2011 Clayton Board of Aldermen meeting, the National Weather Service Coordination Meteorologist Jim Kramper announced that the City of Clayton has been named a National Weather Service StormReady City.

To qualify for this designation, the City must maintain a point/location for issuing severe weather warnings to the public. This criterion is achieved through Clayton’s participation in the East Central Dispatch Center.

The City must have an emergency plan to deal with hazardous weather. Clayton established its emergency plan over fifteen years ago.

Weather must be monitored 24 hours a day. Clayton contracts with an independent weather forecasting service that provides updated weather forecasts specifically for the City of Clayton 24/7/365.  These forecasts come via e-mails, texting and verbal communications at a minimum of two times daily with on-going severe weather updates.  They forecast all possible severe weather warnings including high winds, extreme heat, ice, snow and rain with predicted measurements.

With this designation, Clayton joins 18 counties and 38 cities in Missouri and over 1,600 communities nationwide and continues to add to its long list of certifications and accreditations.
