Fire Department Conducts Realistic Training
May 8, 2009
Between May 7 and May 22, the Clayton Fire Department will conduct training exercises in soon-to-be razed buildings along the 7700 block of Forsyth Boulevard. Most of the training will be done in the 7730 Forsyth building. The owner of the property has given the department permission to use the vacant structure before it is demolished.
The training exercises will be conducted before 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day. However, on May 14, 16, and 17, night training is planned between 6 and 10:00 p.m.
Multiple training scenarios will be conducted. Some of the night trainings may include smoke barrel evolutions. On May 14, 16 and 17, passersby may see smoke coming from the structure. This will be normal. During the exercises, several pieces of fire apparatus will be traversing the area. Extreme care will be taken to keep
inconveniences to a minimum.
This training will enhance the knowledge and efficiency of the Clayton Fire Department personnel and will provide a priceless opportunity to train in a realistic environment.
