Missouri Supreme Court Ruling On The Centene Plaza Project

CLAYTON, Missouri (June 12, 2007) Statement by City of Clayton officials

“It is unfortunate for both the City of Clayton and the entire region that the Centene redevelopment project is now at risk. Without incentives and economic tools, sometimes including the use of eminent domain, aging inner ring cities with dense commercial areas will be at a great disadvantage to attract corporate headquarters and large retail projects.  Under such circumstances and in today’s fiercely competitive environment, it is difficult to ensure fiscal stability and a service level to support a high quality of life.”

“The City believes the Centene project and other redevelopment of our eastern corridor of our Central Business District
are critical to our future.”

“We will work very hard with all parties involved and hope that our vision can still become a reality.”
