The Center of Clayton: Lifeguards immediately respond to medical emergency

Earlier this morning, a female patron at The Center of Clayton had a medical emergency while swimming laps. Center lifeguards responded immediately, helping the woman from the pool and, with the assistance of a nearby physician, provided medical support until paramedics arrived to treat the woman and transport her to a local hospital.

Thanks to the quick response of the trained professionals, the Center lifeguards and the Clayton Fire Department, the swimmer began receiving treatment almost immediately. Center lifeguards are certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

“This is the type of training that we’d prefer to practice rather than actually use,” said Patty DeForrest, Clayton’s Director of Parks and Recreation. “However, it’s training that saves lives as everyone did exactly what they are supposed to do this morning. Our thoughts are with the swimmer and her family. We are hopeful that she will make a full recovery.”
