Wings in the City: butterflies installed in nine locations throughout Clayton
March 8, 2011
The butterflies are part of a public art project called "Wings in the City." There are a total of 55 butterflies that are now on display in prominent areas throughout the St. Louis and St. Louis County. Wings, Barnes-Jewish Hospital's pediatric hospice and palliative care program, is sponsoring the event to raise money for their Expressive Therapy program that provides clinical, emotional and spiritual support for children who have life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses, even if families cannot pay for the services. Butterflies were installed last week and will remain in place until the week of May 16. Of the fourteen areas designated, Clayton is home to the greatest number (nine) of butterflies. Clayton is home to nine Wings in the City butterflies. The one at City Hall was designed by the St. Louis Magazine Staff and is being installed by Rich Brown, Keith Skaer, and Larry McWhirter of BJC. The one between the Shaw Park Ice Rink and Aquatic Center was designed by Pam Mandell, and Deborah Stroh designed the butterfly installed in Shaw Park at the corner of Brentwood and Forsyth. Crescent Plaza is the site for three. Two were installed in St. Louis County's Memorial Park, and one in front of J. Buck's at 101 S. Hanley.
