The City of Clayton Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. The purpose of this position is to respond to fire alarms, medical and all other emergency calls, save and protect life and property; combat, extinguish and prevent fires and treat people in need of medical assistance. The Clayton Fire Department is staffed by 42 professional, highly trained employees. Uniformed employees are trained in both fire and emergency medical services. Personnel from the rank of Firefighter through Captain are represented by the International Association of Firefighters Local 2665. The Department offers no cost, public education programs to residents and businesses in Clayton and works closely with the Clayton School District to offer injury prevention programs in the schools.
The Department serves more than 43 high-rise buildings in addition to several which are currently under construction. The department responds to over 2,000 calls annually and provides services from one fire station with full Fire, EMS (ALS), Fire Prevention and Special Operations Teams. Clayton has been a leader in developing high-rise fire safety and building codes and maintains a rating from the Insurance Service Organization ISO of 2. This rating places our department in the top ten percent (10%) of all departments in the country.
We offer a competitive salary from $63,493 to $79,231 that allows Firefighter/Paramedics to reach the top of the scale within just 8 years. We will also consider candidates without St. Louis County professional firefighter certification with the starting salary of $58,483 and the expectation to successfully graduate from the St. Louis County Fire Academy within six (6) months of hire.

Successful candidates will possess:
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Current Missouri Emergency Medical Technician—Paramedic (EMT-P) License
- Current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Card
- Valid Driver’s License
- St. Louis County Fire Academy graduate preferred.
- State of Missouri Firefighter I & II certification preferred.
- Ability to pass all pre-employment requirements specified by the Department, including medical exam, Department’s physical agility test, and psychological examination.
