Fire Chief John Paul Jones sworn into office
The Clayton Fire Department would like to welcome John Paul Jones, who was sworn in this week. Chief Jones became our 148th member and our 10th Fire Chief in our 122 year history. On hand were City administration, members of the Clayton Fire Department, Chief Jones’ children and granddaughter, and his wife who pinned his badge at the ceremony.
Chief Jones comes to us from the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department where he served for over 30 years, 10 as Fire Chief. Chief Jones will replace the long time Fire Chief Mark Thorp, who retired in October of 2017 after serving the City of Clayton for 35 years, 16 as Fire Chief. Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Paul Mercurio served as Interim Chief while a nationwide search was completed.
Chief Jones brings an extensive background in fire and emergency medical services and holds a BS form Kansas State, and a Masters of Science in Fire Administration and Emergency Management from Oklahoma State University. Chief Jones is a progressive leader who has a successful track record of introducing programs to increase diversity, technology, and innovation to improve the fire departments service level to the community.
We would like to wish Clayton Fire Chief John Paul Jones well and look forward to working together to continue to find new ways to further our mission in the service to our community.
