As the Center nears its twentieth year of operation, mechanical systems including the aquatic center air quality control unit are in need of replacement. These large systems have reached their life expectancy and replacement will enable the Center to continue to handle its large volume of daily visitors.  The project will also include enhancements of the member experience through improved and expanded amenities as well as energy conservation strategies.

Demolition of the Member Locker Rooms and the surface of both pools is nearly complete. Crews spent the last several weeks removing tile, lockers and other surfaces to get the facility ready for a fresh start. Infrastructural electrical and plumbing work is scheduled to begin next to lay the groundwork for our updated pool, shower and locker room systems. The closure of these facilities is expected to continue until sometime in September. Members will have access to Shaw Park Aquatic Center throughout this time.

The rubber floor has been removed from Courts 3 and 4 which has exposed the concrete foundation. As anticipated, contractors have discovered the moisture that has bubbled the rubber floor over the years. Tests will begin shortly to locate the source of the moisture and mitigate any issues for our fresh floor surface. Gym space has been limited, especially during the day due to summer camps moving indoors as a result of weather. If you plan to visit on a weekday during camp hours, please call ahead to check current availability.

Visitors will also start to notice progress in the expansion area in the coming weeks. The areas behind the temporary walls are mostly gutted and much of the roofing has been removed. The walls will start to come down soon to make way for the new expansion area that will house the cardio equipment on the second floor and administration offices on the first floor.

Exact dates of when these facilities will open, and others will close, have not yet been determined due to the lead times on several key supplies. We will share any timeline details through future updates and lobby signage when it becomes available.

Thank you for your continued understanding as we work to build a better community center for the years to come.
