As the Center nears its twentieth year of operation, mechanical systems including the aquatic center air quality control unit are in need of replacement. These large systems have reached their life expectancy and replacement will enable the Center to continue to handle its large volume of daily visitors. The project will also include enhancements of the member experience through improved and expanded amenities as well as energy conservation strategies.

Plumbing, electrical and structural work is still in progress for the pools and locker rooms. Paint has already begun in the pool rooms, and tile will begin by the end of the month. The Competition Pool is currently expected to reopen near the end of September. Members will continue to have access to Shaw Park Aquatic Center throughout this time. The Leisure Pool and locker rooms could require several additional weeks and are expected to reopen in October. Further, the Fall 1 session of Group Water Fitness, that began outside this week, is complimentary for all Center members. Registration is recommended to receive updates about changes to the schedule or location. Register here.
The floor of Courts 3 & 4 has been vapor sealed to block the previous moisture issues, and the walls have a fresh coat of paint. The new flooring will be poured late this week, and once dry, new pads and finishing touches will be installed. These courts are expected to open in early September followed by the closure of Courts 1 & 2 for up to 2 weeks for wall painting and new pads. Regularly scheduled activities like badminton will resume once all four courts are complete.
Work will begin on the roof this week to address the leaks we have experienced over the years. This portion of the project is not expected to impact any operations inside the facility.
Finally, the parking lot expansion area where the mulch pile once stood has been cleared as part of Clayton High School’s Adzick Field project. Construction vehicles will begin parking in this area once the grading is completed and gravel has been added. This parking lot will be paved and open for public use at the conclusion of the field project.
We are still working to secure exact dates and will share any timeline details through future updates and lobby signage when it becomes available. Thank you for your continued understanding as we work to build a better community center for the years to come.
