Weekly Police Incident Report: June 1st - 7th
For the reporting period of Monday, June 1st - Sunday, June 7th, CPD officers responded to 353 calls for service, including 11 automobile accidents and 16 calls to assist the CFD. CPD officers responded to multiple reports of vehicles driving through our community without license plates or headlights, possibly related to the unrest in downtown St. Louis early in the week. Among those calls were the following incidents:
Last week we reported a homeless subject was arrested for causing extensive damage to an unoccupied office suite. Monday morning, the building’s property manager reported the same man had stolen a set of keys to the building. The man was located nearby & was arrested when it was confirmed he was in possession of the keys.
Monday afternoon, employees of a law firm in the central business district discovered 2 company laptops were missing from their office suite. A review of surveillance footage revealed an unknown man, carrying a backpack, entered the building shortly after 11:15am. Approximately six minutes later, he exited the building carrying a second bag containing what appeared to be one of the laptops.
Officers assisted surrounding agencies early Tuesday morning with multiple calls for service & vehicle stops related to the overnight unrest downtown. A traffic stop in the area of S. Brentwood Blvd. & Walinca led to the recovery of stolen clothing items possibly looted from a business in St. Louis City. A handgun & marijuana were also seized from the vehicle.
Tuesday night, a vehicle from officers as they attempted to conduct a traffic stop northbound on I-170. A short time later, the same vehicle was observed traveling southbound on I-170 near Forest Park Parkway with two flat tires. Officers successfully stopped the disabled vehicle & arrested the driver for driving while suspended, careless and imprudent driving & resisting arrest. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a handgun & additional ammunition belonging to a different handgun.
A resident contacted this department later Tuesday night to report a small safe & its contents were missing from her residence. Work had recently been completed on the interior of the home & the homeowner suspects one of the subcontractors is responsible for the theft. Investigation is ongoing.
A man was jogging in the 600 block of S. Brentwood Blvd. early Wednesday morning when he discovered a handgun on the sidewalk. The weapon was seized for safekeeping.
Wednesday afternoon, Walgreens employees reported 2 men stole several bottles of laundry detergent & other merchandise from the store. They were last seen leaving the area in a silver BMW sedan with Illinois license plates.
Later Wednesday afternoon, a resident contacted the CPD to report she had fallen victim to a phone scam wherein she authorized a large payment using her credit card information.
Finally, a resident was out of town Saturday night when he learned a passerby discovered license plates belonging to his vehicle discarded in St. Louis City. After speaking with a neighbor, he discovered the vehicle had been stolen from his home in the Davis Place neighborhood sometime between Friday afternoon & Saturday night. The area is equipped with surveillance cameras & investigation is ongoing.
