On the morning of Monday, July 14, Officers responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of a multi-vehicle crash. One of the drivers explained he had been traveling southbound on I-170 when he was struck from behind, forcing him to collide with the rear of the vehicle ahead of him. The driver of the striking vehicle did not stop to exchange information, and neither victim could describe the driver or their vehicle. While on the scene, the remaining drivers both complained of non-life-threatening injuries. One man refused medical treatment while the other was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The investigation continues.

A resident of the Clayshire neighborhood contacted the CPD early Tuesday morning after discovering her vehicle had been broken into. She explained that approximately ten minutes after parking her vehicle in front of her building, she received an alert that her car door was open. Upon investigating further, she discovered her vehicle’s center console had been rummaged through, and her sunglasses were stolen. Additionally, she noted that her driver’s seat was wet and smelled of what she suspected to be urine. No suspects or witnesses have been identified.

A CPD Officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Shaw Park Drive and S. Brentwood Blvd. late that night after a woman failed to stop for a flashing red electric signal. While speaking with the driver, the Officer learned the woman had multiple traffic warrants through the Florissant Police Department. She was subsequently arrested and later released to the St. Louis County Justice Center to await the Florissant Officers. She was issued a summons for her traffic violation and has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 16, Officers responded to the St. Louis County courthouse after a court employee reported she was being stalked. She explained that a man would not accept the end of their short-lived relationship and would not leave her alone despite her efforts to block all communication with him. Most disturbingly, he followed her across several city blocks while she was on her lunch break and left items on her vehicle the day before. Officers are attempting to contact the man for further investigation.

Later that day, a man reported someone had left the scene after damaging his parked vehicle. He explained his vehicle is equipped with security cameras that had captured footage of a red Ford F-150 striking his rear bumper and wheel before parking nearby. Officers identified the owner of the pickup and are investigating who was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision.

A woman reported that she had parked her vehicle in the central business district on Wednesday evening and, upon returning, discovered fresh damage to her front bumper. A witness left behind a note identifying the striking vehicle and describing the driver. The witness stated he saw the driver of a silver SUV strike the victim’s vehicle as he was parking in an adjacent spot. The driver was seen checking the cars for damage before walking away without leaving any contact information behind. The investigation continues.

Officers returned to the interstate for a multi-vehicle crash on the afternoon of Thursday, July 17. A woman explained she was travelling in the southbound lanes when traffic ahead suddenly slowed. She responded by abruptly braking, which set off a chain reaction collision. One of the drivers was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

Early the next morning, Officers were called to a disturbance in the Moorlands neighborhood. The victim explained that a verbal argument with her teen escalated when the juvenile struck her in the head before pushing her out of his way. The juvenile left the scene before the Officers arrived. The case has been forwarded to the St. Louis County Family Courts for consideration.

Later that day, staff at Qdoba requested assistance in removing an intoxicated subject from the restaurant. Employees explained the man had been found sleeping in the bathroom and had become disruptive. As the Officers escorted the man to the patio, he became argumentative. He refused to identify himself or comply with the Officers’ commands and was arrested for Failure to Comply and Resisting Arrest. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court. Additionally, at the request of restaurant staff, he was issued a trespass warning and informed he would be arrested for Trespassing if he returned.

A traffic stop early on the morning of Saturday, July 19, resulted in the driver’s arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Additionally, the man admitted to being under the influence of marijuana. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Residents of the Davis Place neighborhood contacted the CPD just before 4 am that morning to report someone had broken into their vehicle. The reporting party explained that his car alarm had awoken him. Upon investigating, he noticed a dark-colored SUV driving away. He discovered that a window had been broken out of his truck. While searching the neighborhood, Officers found several additional vehicles had been damaged. One victim later realized his backpack, containing his school laptop and sports equipment, had been taken. Another returned home to discover her vehicle’s ignition had also been damaged. The investigation continues.

Thanks to the cooperation of community members and the use of nearby surveillance footage, our Officers were able to develop leads and identify both suspects quickly.

On Thursday, July 24, Clayton Detectives arrested 18-year-old Javier Clark. The case was presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office, which issued charges of Robbery 1st Degree and Assault 3rd Degree – Special Victim. Clark has also been charged with Robbery 1st Degree in connection with separate incidents in University City and Normandy. He remains in custody at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $350,000 cash-only bond.

Clayton Detectives arrested the second suspect, a juvenile, on Monday, July 28. The individual has been referred to the St. Louis County Juvenile Authorities for prosecution on the charge of Robbery 1st Degree. He remains in custody. In compliance with state law, the suspect’s identity will not be released.

This is the first robbery reported in Clayton in 2025. While violent crime is rare in our community, the Clayton Police Department takes these incidents very seriously and commits significant resources to solve them quickly.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the community members who came forward with video footage and information. The release of still images from the investigation prompted valuable tips that directly led to the arrest of both suspects.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Carondelet Plaza on the afternoon of the 20th for a report of a domestic disturbance. Witnesses stated that a married couple had been in a physical altercation in the parking garage to the rear of 801 Fish. The victim reported an argument with her husband turned physical when the man attempted to pull her from the vehicle and punched her, resulting in visible injuries and damage to her clothing. Officers arrested the man for Domestic Assault 3rd Degree, and presented the case to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration. Warrants were issued, and the man is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

Officers responded to the 7900 block of Forsyth Monday morning, July 21, for a report of a driver leaving the scene of an accident. After finding the driver nearby, Officers quickly determined the woman was impaired as a result of “huffing” or inhaling chemicals. The woman was arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving While Intoxicated. As they informed her she was under arrest, the woman asked the Officers if she could “have a hit of that.” It was unclear whether she was referring to the chemicals in her car or the vape pen Officers found in her pocket. Pending lab results, the case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.

That afternoon, housekeeping at a local hotel contacted the CPD to report a guest had left items behind in their guest room after their stay expired. Staff explained they had entered the room to clean and had discovered an unsecured firearm on the ground and a drawstring bag discarded on a chair. Inside the bag were plastic baggies containing suspected methamphetamine, unknown capsules, and suspected controlled substances. After notifying management, a hotel security officer opened the room safe and found additional baggies with a crystalline substance suspected to be a controlled substance and a large sum of U.S. currency. All items were seized as evidence and will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Crime Lab for analysis.

While they were on the scene, a man approached the room and claimed he had been the occupant. As they spoke with him, Officers learned the man had an active warrant for his arrest through our department related to his Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance. He was subsequently arrested, and during a search of his person, Officers found a large sum of money and two cell phones. Pending lab results, the case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney for consideration of charges for Trafficking or Attempting to Traffick Drugs, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm – Dangerous Felony, and Unlawful Possession of Paraphernalia.

Officers responded to a local bank branch Tuesday afternoon for a report of a Forgery in progress. Upon their arrival, a bank manager explained that a man had attempted to cash a bad check. The manager explained that the man was trying to cash a check from his employer when the check was flagged as having already been deposited electronically. The suspect was still on the scene and complied with the Officers without incident. When questioned, the man admitted he had deposited the check electronically and received a partial payment. He explained he had responded to the bank in an attempt to deposit the actual check for the remainder of the funds. It was later determined he had only received a partial payment because his account had been previously overdrawn. He was subsequently arrested for Forgery, and the case will be forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney for consideration.

Wednesday afternoon, July 23, Officers responded to the 8500 block of Maryland for a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident. The reporting party explained she had parked in the lot of her apartment building earlier in the day. When she returned, she discovered fresh damage on her vehicle’s front fender. Nearby surveillance cameras captured images of a light-colored SUV striking her car as it backed out of its parking space. The investigation continues.

A woman contacted the CPD Thursday evening to report that someone had stolen her vehicle from the central business district. She explained she had parked in an alleyway with her hazard lights on, but stated she had turned her car off and taken her keys with her as she entered a nearby restaurant. When she returned ten minutes later, the car was missing.

Officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Anti-Crime Task Force notified the CPD that the vehicle was recovered in their jurisdiction on Friday. SLMPD Officers arrested the driver for Tampering 1st Degree. Our investigation continues.

A traffic stop in the central business district early Friday morning led to the driver’s arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. This was her first alcohol-related arrest. She has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Finally, on Sunday morning, July 27, a man contacted the CPD to make a delayed report about someone breaking into his vehicle. He explained he had parked on the Fontbonne Campus just before 7 am Saturday. It wasn’t until later Saturday morning that he realized someone had rummaged through the truck and stolen his wallet and a phone charger. When he discovered his wallet was missing, he checked his financial statements. He learned someone had used his credit and debit cards to make nearly $6,000 worth of unauthorized withdrawals and purchases. Two of the purchases were completed at U.S. Post Offices, and a third attempt was declined. The investigation continues.

Anyone with information about these or other investigations is asked to contact the CPD at (314)-645-3000. Until next week, stay safe.
