Publish Date:10/20/2025 4:40 PM

For the reporting period of Monday, October 6th – Sunday, October 12th, your CPD Officers responded to 506 calls for service. These included 23 vehicle crashes and 47 requests to assist other agencies. Among those calls were the following incidents:

A man contacted the CPD Monday evening to report that his watch and bracelet were lost or stolen following a recent hotel stay in Clayton. He explained he had placed both items in a carrying case and put it on top of the TV in his room that morning, but left without retrieving it. He did not realize his mistake until he arrived home. He stated he contacted the hotel and was told the items had not been turned in to the front desk. The investigation continues.

Officers responded to the interstate on Tuesday morning for a multi-vehicle crash. A man explained he had been traveling southbound, approaching Brentwood Blvd., when traffic ahead slowed. Unable to stop in time, he struck two vehicles. His passenger complained of neck pain but refused hospital transport.

A second driver stated he had also been traveling southbound when he saw the first vehicle approaching rapidly in his rearview mirror. He attempted to change lanes to avoid being hit but was struck from behind and then saw that vehicle collide with another.

The third driver reported she had been stopped in traffic when her vehicle was rear-ended. She experienced neck pain and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. All three vehicles sustained damage and were towed from the scene.

A woman contacted the CPD on Tuesday to report that her daughter had accidentally left her bookbag after a field hockey game at Clayton High School on Friday evening, October 10th. The backpack contained her homework and a Parkway School District-issued Chromebook. On Sunday, she received a Facebook message from a Clayton resident who had found some of her daughter’s belongings scattered at the edge of Shaw Park. While her books and homework were recovered, the Chromebook remains missing. The investigation is ongoing.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers responded to the 6600 block of San Bonita for a report of property damage in progress. The reporting party stated he had been inside his apartment when a woman—identified as the former occupant of the building—threw a large flowerpot through his bedroom window, shattering the glass and injuring him. He explained the woman had been evicted last month, and he and his girlfriend had recently moved into the unit.

When Officers arrived, they located the woman outside the building and arrested her for assault and property damage. During subsequent searches, Officers discovered a green glass smoking pipe and a white powdery substance believed to be a controlled substance. The woman admitted to using the pipe to smoke cocaine. The items were seized as evidence and will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Crime Lab for analysis. She was issued summonses for Simple Assault and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court. The case will also be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for review of additional charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Property Damage.

A short time later, the CPD Business Officer observed a man trespassing in the central business district. The man, who has been arrested multiple times for trespassing at local businesses, including Chipotle, was again sitting at outdoor dining tables on the restaurant’s property. He was aware that he was barred from the premises and had an active warrant through the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for Trespassing 1st Degree and Resisting Arrest.

After confirming the warrant, the Officer informed the man that he was under arrest. The man became belligerent and actively resisted by pulling away from the Officer during handcuffing. He was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest, and the case was forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.

The lobby attendant at a local apartment complex reported Wednesday evening that her wallet had been stolen. She stated she had placed her backpack behind the front desk at the start of her shift, but when she later checked it, the zipper was open, and her wallet was missing. She later learned that her debit and credit cards had been used for unauthorized purchases. Surveillance footage showed an unknown man rummaging through her bag while she was assisting residents. The investigation is ongoing.

Early Thursday morning, CVS employees requested assistance with a man acting suspiciously inside the store. They explained the man had filled a cart with bottles of liquor and pushed it out of the store without paying. A responding Officer intercepted the vehicle in the parking lot and saw the stolen alcohol in the back seat. While speaking with the driver, the front-seat passenger climbed into the driver’s seat and sped away.

The driver stated he was an acquaintance of the passenger and had only agreed to provide a ride, denying any involvement in the theft. He informed the Officer the car belonged to his mother, who had given him permission to drive it, but not the passenger. The vehicle was entered as stolen and wanted for Felony Fleeing. The investigation continues.

Later that morning, a man came to the CPD to report check fraud. He explained that in September, he had mailed two checks from a local USPS drop box. He later discovered both had been altered and made payable to an unknown individual. The case has been forwarded to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for further investigation.

Shortly afterward, staff at TruFusion STL reported a man trespassing. Employees explained the man had been aggressively panhandling outside and entered the business without cause. He had left before the Officers arrived, but Washington University Police later reported he was seen nearby. CPD and WUPD Officers located the man in the 7600 block of Maryland Ave.

He claimed he had been attempting to enroll at the university but could not provide proof. During the encounter, Officers discovered he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and suspected narcotics. The items were seized, and the man was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The evidence will be sent to the St. Louis County Crime Lab for analysis, and pending results, the case will be submitted to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office.

Thursday evening, a resident in the 6400 block of Alexander reported finding an unknown man in her backyard. She stated she had been sitting in her sunroom when the man entered the yard and began walking around. When she tapped on the window to get his attention, he ran off. Neighbors on Cecil Ellenwood also reported seeing the man in their yards. Officers searched the area but did not locate him. No forced entry or thefts were reported.

A contractor came to the CPD on Friday afternoon to report fraud. He stated that last fall, he had taken possession of two properties in exchange for payment and received the deed in late 2024. He allowed his sister to move into one of the homes, but recently discovered the previous owner had forged his signature, filed a fraudulent quitclaim deed to reclaim the property, and was now attempting to evict his sister. The investigation continues.

That evening, Officers responded to another multi-vehicle crash on the interstate. A woman explained she had been driving in the left-most southbound lane of I-170 when traffic ahead slowed. She was unable to stop in time, striking the vehicle in front of her and then being hit from behind. She suffered neck and back pain and was transported to a local hospital. The other drivers confirmed her account. Neither was injured, and both were able to drive their vehicles from the scene.

Late that night, Officers responded to the 200 block of S. Central for a single-vehicle crash. The driver stated he had not seen the curb dividing S. Central from the Forest Park Parkway exit ramp and drove over it, striking a “Do Not Enter” sign and shearing it from its post. His vehicle sustained front-end and steering damage, rendering it inoperable. He was not injured.

While patrolling the central business district early Saturday morning, a CPD Officer was flagged down by a Café Napoli security guard attempting to block a woman from re-entering the bar’s patio. The woman ran off, and the guard explained she had been removed earlier for causing a disturbance. As they spoke, she ran back inside. Despite repeated orders from the Officer and security staff to leave, she continued yelling and refused to comply.

Once outside, she was arrested for Trespassing 1st Degree. During a search of her person, she repeatedly pulled away and refused commands. She was also charged with Failure to Comply and Resisting Arrest and has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Early Sunday morning, Officers were called to the 7400 block of Wydown to assist with removing an intoxicated woman from an apartment building. Officers learned she was wanted by the St. Charles County Police Department for Assault 4th and had an active traffic warrant through the St. Louis County Police Department. The warrants were confirmed, and she was arrested and transported to the St. Louis County Justice Center.

Finally, Officers responded to a local hotel later that morning for a report of property damage. Management reported that an unknown man had tampered with and damaged an exterior key card lock. While reviewing surveillance footage, an employee spotted the man at the intersection of Carondelet and S. Bemiston. Officers located and arrested him for Destruction of Property. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Anyone with information about these or other investigations is asked to contact the Clayton Police Department at (314) 645-3000. Until next week, stay safe.
