On Monday afternoon, officers responded to Wydown Blvd. and DeMun Ave. for a crash involving a juvenile bicyclist. The driver left the scene before officers arrived. The cyclist reported he was riding his electric bicycle eastbound in the bike lane when a vehicle cut in front of him and struck him as it turned onto DeMun. The driver, described as a woman in her thirties, asked if he was okay. When he indicated he was, she left without providing contact information.
Officers observed abrasions on the cyclist’s palms, and he complained of ankle pain. His parent responded to the scene, and after an evaluation by Clayton EMS, declined further medical treatment. The investigation is ongoing.
As we reported last week, a man stole his acquaintance’s vehicle when he fled the scene as Officers investigated a shoplifting at CVS. On Monday night, Normandy PD located the vehicle parked in their jurisdiction. A woman was seated in the front passenger seat and identified the driver as the same man who had fled from CPD Officers. The man never returned, and the vehicle was later released to its registered owner. Efforts to identify the suspect continue.
Tuesday afternoon, officers responded to a local bank branch for a fraud in progress. A teller reported that a woman was attempting to open an account using a check written to another person. The woman claimed she had found the check on the ground and wanted to deposit it to withdraw money. Officers confirmed the check was legitimate, but that the woman was not authorized to use it. She was arrested for passing a bad check. The case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
Later that afternoon, officers responded to a local jewelry store for another fraud report. The reporting party, who handles payroll, stated she had received an email from someone posing as an employee, requesting a change to their direct deposit information. Before making the change, she spoke directly with the employee and discovered the email was fraudulent. No funds were transferred. The investigation continues.
Shortly afterward, a woman reported that while she was seated in her parked vehicle in the north end of town, a silver BMW SUV backed into her car, damaging the driver’s side wheel well. Instead of exchanging information, the driver left the scene. A witness described the suspect as an elderly female but could provide no further information. The investigation is ongoing.
During a late-night traffic stop in the 7700 block of Forsyth, an Officer determined the driver did not have a valid license, vehicle registration, or insurance. Additionally, they learned that Florissant PD had active warrants for the woman’s arrest for Harassment and Assault. The woman was arrested and issued summonses for her traffic violations. She has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court. She was later transported to the St. Louis County Justice Center to await extradition by the Florissant PD.
Wednesday morning, Walgreens employees requested assistance after a woman pushed a cart of unpaid merchandise out of the store. She was last seen driving away in a green Pontiac GT. The investigation continues.
That afternoon, a resident reported jewelry missing from her home. She explained that earlier in the month, she discovered the locking mechanism on her wall safe was no longer working, but continued to store valuables inside. Officers found no signs of forced entry. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers returned to Walgreens on Wednesday evening for another theft report. An employee reported that three women had concealed merchandise in their purses. Before officers arrived, the suspects fled toward Qdoba and were last seen leaving in a silver sedan. The investigation continues.
Thursday morning, a man reported that while turning onto eastbound Clayton Rd. from Glenridge, another vehicle struck his driver’s side. The other driver stated she was traveling westbound on Clayton Rd. and could not recall if she had a green signal. A witness later confirmed the woman had run the red light. Both drivers reported non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by EMS to a local hospital. Their vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.
A Straub’s employee was stocking shelves in the liquor department Thursday afternoon when he heard bottles being placed in a basket and saw a man and woman taking multiple liquor bottles from the shelves. When the woman noticed she was being watched, the pair fled the store with the basket full of merchandise. They were last seen leaving in an older white Ford Explorer with a broken rear window. The investigation continues.
Friday morning, a man reported someone had left the scene of an accident in the central business district. He explained he had parked his vehicle in a parking garage that morning. When he returned a few hours later, he discovered fresh damage to his vehicle’s front, driver’s side fender, front bumper, and hood.
Later that day, a woman reported someone had left the scene after striking her vehicle. She explained she had parked her vehicle in the 6300 block of N. Rosebury on Friday morning. When she returned that afternoon, she noticed fresh damage and paint transfer on her car’s front bumper. No suspects or witnesses have been identified in either case, and the investigations continue.
Saturday morning, a resident of the Moorlands neighborhood discovered that his SUV had been broken into overnight. He reported that the vehicle was intact the previous evening but that by morning, the sunroof and a rear driver-side window were shattered. Nothing appeared to be missing. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
Finally, on Sunday afternoon, a resident of the Carrswold neighborhood reported several pieces of jewelry missing from her home. She last saw the items before leaving for a family trip in early September. The investigation is ongoing.
