For the reporting period from Monday, October 27th, to Sunday, November 2nd, your CPD Officers responded to 496 calls for service. Those calls included 30 vehicle crashes, including two involving pedestrians, and 49 calls to assist other agencies. Among those calls were the following incidents:
On Monday morning, Officers responded to the Moorlands neighborhood for a report of property damage at a condominium building. The property manager explained that residents had complained that the overhead door to the shared garage had been damaged by unknown means and would not open. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
That afternoon, a construction worker sustained severe injuries when he was accidentally struck by a dump truck in the north end of town. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Tuesday morning, a man reported he had been attempting to merge onto southbound I-170 from Forest Park Parkway when his vehicle slid and struck another car. The other driver confirmed he had been traveling southbound on the interstate when another vehicle spun out of its lane and hit his car. Neither driver was injured, but both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.
That afternoon, Officers returned to the interstate to investigate a multi-vehicle crash. One driver explained that the traffic ahead of him suddenly slowed. When he applied his brakes, his vehicle slid and struck the car in front of him, triggering a chain reaction that pushed that vehicle into a third. The striking vehicle was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.
Wednesday afternoon, a resident reported her home had been burglarized. She explained that the house was undergoing renovations and that her family had been staying elsewhere. When she returned home Tuesday evening, she noticed a jewelry box was out of place and later discovered several items were missing. She is compiling a list of everyone who had access to the home, and the investigation continues.
Thursday morning, a man came to the CPD to report he had been struck by a vehicle the previous day. He explained that while walking to work along Topton Way on Wednesday morning, he was hit by a car as he crossed the entrance to the parking lot at 50 Gay Ave. The pedestrian and the driver exchanged information at the time, and the man did not initially believe he was injured. However, after visiting urgent care and learning he had sustained a concussion, he decided to report the incident.
Officers contacted the driver, who confirmed the man’s account. He explained that poor weather conditions and the pedestrian’s dark clothing prevented him from seeing the man before the collision.
Later that morning, Officers responded to S. Hanley Rd. north of Forest Park Parkway for a report of a motorist in need of assistance. Upon arrival, they discovered two vehicles had been involved in a collision. One driver stated she had been traveling in the left lane when another vehicle struck her passenger side, disabling her car. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Her passenger complained of leg and back pain and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Thursday evening, a resident reported his daughter’s bicycle had been stolen. He explained that while visiting a friend in the 6400 block of Wydown, his daughter left her bicycle and helmet in the friend’s backyard. The man said the bike was equipped with a tracking device, and he became concerned when he received an alert that it was in the 6000 block of Lindell.
When he went to the bike’s location, he found St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) Officers on scene with a man in custody. SLMPD Officers explained they had recovered the bicycle while investigating a report of a man attempting to break into vehicles on Lindell. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was in possession of the stolen bicycle and helmet. Both items were returned to the victim. The man remained in SLMPD custody for Burglary 2nd Degree and Property Damage. The case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of additional charges.
Later that evening, Officers responded to the exit ramp from southbound I-170 onto S. Brentwood Blvd. for a crash with injuries. A woman explained she had been stopped at the bottom of the ramp when her vehicle was rear-ended. She stated that the impact caused her to strike her head. Officers observed no visible injuries, and the woman declined medical treatment at the scene.
Thursday night, a Davis Place resident reported a suspicious encounter. He explained that an unfamiliar man knocked on his door asking for help with his vehicle. Officers located a truck parked in the alleyway between Rosiline Dr. and Walinca Terrace and found the driver nearby. The man explained that his truck’s battery had died and that he was seeking a jump start.
During their investigation, Officers learned he had active warrants through the St. Louis County Police Department for traffic and stealing offenses, and a history of drug abuse. With his consent, Officers searched the vehicle and found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The items were seized, and the man was arrested. Pending lab results, this case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
Friday afternoon, a bank manager contacted CPD to make a delayed fraud report. She explained that in mid-October, a man had cashed a fraudulent check, receiving $5,000 in cash and the remainder in a cashier’s check. The teller who processed the transaction did not realize the check was fake, and the theft was discovered two days later. The investigation continues.
Later that afternoon, a man reported a hit-and-run crash. He explained he had been driving westbound on Forest Park Parkway, approaching the entrance to southbound I-170, when another vehicle struck the front passenger side of his truck while cutting across from the northbound lane. The striking vehicle did not stop, but the man photographed it as it fled.
Using the photo, Officers identified the vehicle’s owner and confirmed she had been driving at the time of the collision. The woman has been uncooperative and has refused to respond to CPD. The investigation is ongoing.
That night, a woman reported that her firearm had been stolen. She explained she had attended a party on the west end of town and confirmed her handgun was secured in her purse before entering the building. While inside, she placed her purse on a chair and did not maintain control of it. When she retrieved the purse at the end of the night, she discovered the firearm was missing. The investigation continues.
Saturday afternoon, Officers responded to a crash at Forsyth Blvd. and Hanley Rd. One driver explained she had been traveling westbound on Forsyth when another vehicle entered the intersection from Hanley Rd., and she was unable to stop in time. She stated her light was green when she entered the intersection. However, both the other driver and their passenger claimed they had the green light. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The second vehicle was towed from the scene.
Early Sunday morning, a passerby reported a vehicle that had crossed all lanes of traffic on Big Bend Blvd. north of Clayton Rd. and crashed into a utility pole. Responding Officers determined the driver did not have a valid license and was Driving While Intoxicated. He was arrested and has an upcoming court date through Clayton Municipal Court.
