In accordance with the state law and the Charter of the City of Clayton, notice is given that a general municipal election shall be held in the City of Clayton, Missouri on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, for the duly qualified electors of the City to select three Councilmembers, one from each ward, for a three-year term of office.
Requirements for position of Councilmember
A Councilmember shall be at least twenty-five years of age, a qualified voter of the State of Missouri, and a resident of the City of Clayton for at least two years immediately prior to his election. Councilmembers elected by wards shall be residents of the wards from which they are elected. Councilmembers shall hold no other remunerative position in the city government during their terms. If a councilmember shall cease to be a resident of the City of Clayton or of the ward by which they were elected or shall otherwise cease to possess these qualifications or shall be convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude, their office shall immediately become vacant.
Filing for said offices shall open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at which time the City Clerk shall receive Declarations of Candidacy, 10 N. Bemiston Avenue, Clayton, Missouri.
Thereafter, declarations will be received by the City Clerk or her designee from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday, (excluding holidays, when City Hall is officially closed on December 25, 2025) until filing closes at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Names of candidates shall be listed on the ballot in the order in which they are filed.
