Officers were called to CVS on the morning of Monday, December 22nd, after a manager reported a man was trespassing in the store. Responding Officers confirmed that the man had been previously warned not to return and arrested him for Trespassing on Private Property. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Later that morning, an employee at a local childcare facility responded to the CPD to file a delayed report of an assault. She explained that in mid-December, a verbal argument with a co-worker had turned physical when the co-worker shoved her with both hands, causing her to stumble backward. She stated she had not been injured during the altercation, and she had already reported the incident to her supervisor. The case was presented to the Prosecuting Attorney for the City of Clayton, and the co-worker was issued a summons for Assault 4th degree. She has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

That afternoon, a resident in the 6300 block of Alamo reported someone had damaged his vehicle over the weekend. Upon viewing the car, Officers discovered that someone had damaged the vehicle’s steering column and ignition, which appeared to have been an attempt to steal the vehicle. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Monday evening, a woman reported she had been driving southbound on I-170 when she was struck from behind by a black Chevrolet Trailblazer with Missouri license plates. She stated the driver of the vehicle did not attempt to contact her or exchange information before leaving the scene. She explained that the SUV’s windows were heavily tinted, and she was unable to see who had been driving. Both the driver and her passenger complained of non-life-threatening injuries and were evaluated on the scene by Clayton EMS personnel. The driver was later transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The investigation continues.

In November, we reported that a CPD Officer was conducting a roadside investigation of a vehicle wanted by the Kirkwood Police Department in connection with a theft when the man drove away. A wanted entry was created, alerting local law enforcement agencies that our department was seeking the man and the vehicle for Aggravated Fleeing from a Stop/Detention, a felony. On Tuesday afternoon, December 23rd, the man was arrested by the Maryland Heights Police Department. Our Officers took custody of the man and transported him to our station, where he refused to speak with Officers. The case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.

Tuesday evening, Officers responded to the southbound I-170 near S. Brentwood Blvd. for a vehicle crash with injuries. A man reported he had been driving in the southbound lanes when the vehicle in front of him became congested. As he was slowing, his vehicle was struck from behind. He was evaluated on the scene by EMS personnel for head and back pain, but declined further medical attention. The driver of the striking vehicle was not injured. However, his vehicle was towed from the scene after sustaining significant damage.

He stated he swerved to avoid a collision, lost control, and drove off the roadway at Forest Park Parkway, where he struck a tree. The collision caused extensive damage to his vehicle, and it was later towed from the scene. He was transported to a local hospital for shoulder and chest pain.

That evening, Officers responded to Maryland Ave. at N. Meramec for a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident. A quick-thinking witness photographed a vehicle driving in the bike lane on Maryland and reported that the car had left the scene after striking the passenger side mirror of a parked vehicle. Investigation revealed the striking vehicle was a rental car, and Officers are working to identify the driver.

A woman contacted the CPD on Sunday afternoon, December 28th, to report someone had stolen her vehicle. Responding Officers quickly determined the alleged theft had not occurred. As they continued speaking with the woman, they learned she had active warrants through our department for Resisting Arrest, Trespassing, and Tampering. Additionally, she was wanted by UMSL PD for Burglary 2nd, and had similar charges through the Kirkwood and Richmond Heights Police Departments. The woman was arrested and issued a court date in Clayton Municipal Court before being released to RHPD on their charges.

Passersby may have observed a significant police presence near S. Brentwood Blvd. and Forest Park Parkway on Monday morning, December 29th. CPD Officers were assisting after an individual ran from an Officer from another jurisdiction. Thankfully, the individual was quickly and safely taken into custody on S. Brentwood Blvd. and Venetian Drive without further incident. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of our community while Officers were on the scene.

A short time later, Officers responded to Concordia Lane regarding a suspicious subject. A resident explained he had returned home to find an unfamiliar vehicle parked in his space and a man tampering with his grill. As Officers were responding to the scene, they observed the suspect’s vehicle driving away and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The man was eventually detained near the intersection of San Bonita and DeMun. While Officers confirmed the resident had intervened before the man had the opportunity to steal anything, they arrested him for Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicles and Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Staff explained that they believed she had concealed jewelry and a bottle of wine in her purse and had left the store without attempting to purchase them. The woman left the property before the Officers arrived.

Officers started the new year by responding to a call for a fight in progress at IHOP early Thursday morning. The parties had separated before our Officers arrived. Ten individuals reported that a verbal argument between two groups of customers quickly became physical and resulted in several individuals sustaining non-life-threatening injuries; they all refused medical attention while on the scene. None of the parties wished to pursue charges. This case will be forwarded to the City of Clayton Prosecuting Attorney for consideration.

St. Louis County Library employees contacted the CPD on Friday afternoon, January 2nd, to report that a man was trespassing in the building. Staff explained they had confronted the man after discovering he was viewing inappropriate materials on the library computers, and they had requested that he leave. Rather than complying with their request, the man had become argumentative and had refused to leave. Officers arrested the man for Trespassing and Resisting Arrest. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

A traffic stop in the 900 block of S. Hanley early Saturday morning resulted in the driver’s arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. At the time of the traffic stop, his blood alcohol concentration was over twice the legal limit. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
