For the reporting period of Monday, January 26th – Sunday, February 1st, your CPD Officers responded to 420 calls for service, including 16 vehicle crashes and 61 requests to assist other agencies. Among those calls were the following incidents:
Officers responded to a local medical facility on Tuesday afternoon for a delayed report of an assault. The victim explained that a visit from a friend had turned violent when the man became irritated and lashed out at the victim by striking them on the back of their head with a cellphone before fleeing the building.
On Wednesday afternoon, Officers were called to the St. Louis County Justice Center to meet with a man who was requesting police assistance. Upon their arrival, the Officers recognized the man as the suspect in Tuesday’s assault investigation. They subsequently arrested him for Assault 3rd - Special Victim. The man admitted to visiting with the victim the day before but adamantly denied assaulting them. The case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
A few hours later, Officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the interstate. A woman explained that southbound traffic had slowed due to congestion ahead of her, and that she had been at a complete stop when another car struck her from behind, setting off a chain reaction involving two additional vehicles. Thankfully, no one was injured, and all the vehicles were driven from the scene.
A CPD Traffic Officer was on patrol near the intersection of S. Hanley and Bonhomme on Tuesday night when he witnessed a vehicle making a right turn at a red light, where multiple signs are posted prohibiting the action. He initiated a traffic stop and, while speaking with the driver, observed signs that the man was intoxicated. After further investigation, the Officer confirmed his observations and arrested the man. During a search of the man’s vehicle, the Officer located an open bottle of alcohol in the vehicle’s side door pocket. The man was issued summonses for the prohibited turn, Driving While Intoxicated, and Possession of an Open Container of an Alcoholic Beverage. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
Officers were called to the 7600 block of Wydown on Wednesday afternoon for a report of a man causing a disturbance. Upon their arrival, Officers observed the man pacing in the roadway. When they attempted to take him into custody, the man resisted and struck an Officer before trying to run away. When the man repeatedly ignored verbal commands, Officers used a Taser to subdue him and safely took him into custody. The case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for consideration of assault charges.
A traffic stop early Thursday morning led to the driver’s arrest after the Officer learned the man had two active traffic warrants in our jurisdiction. He was issued a new court date and released from the scene.
A woman stated she had been driving southbound on I-170 approaching Clayton Rd early on Friday morning, when she struck a patch of snow in the roadway. She explained that she had lost control of her vehicle and struck the concrete barrier, causing her car to roll onto its side. Thankfully, she was not injured. Her vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.
Later that morning, Officers responded to the 7500 block of Wydown for a report of someone trespassing in an apartment building. Upon their arrival, Officers found the building locked. They observed a man inside the common area and instructed him to open the door, which he did. The man admitted he had been loitering in the hallway but claimed a relative lives in the building. His claims could not be confirmed. When the Officers offered him the opportunity to leave voluntarily, he refused and verbally threatened them. He was subsequently arrested for Trespassing on Private Property and has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
A man reported he had been driving southbound in the first block of S. Brentwood on Friday afternoon when another vehicle, a blue Volvo, struck his car as it merged into his lane. He stated the driver of the Volvo had not stopped to exchange information, but he provided the vehicle's license plate number. It should be noted that the crash occurred directly in front of the CPD and was captured by the department’s surveillance cameras. As the Officer completed a computer inquiry, he recognized that the description matched that of a vehicle involved in another crash in our jurisdiction approximately ten minutes earlier. When Officers contacted the driver, she admitted to being involved in the first crash but denied involvement in the second. She was subsequently issued a summons for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
That evening, Officers were called to a local hotel for a delayed report of a theft from a guest room. A woman explained she had placed her watch in the drawer of an end table in her room on Sunday evening. When she went to retrieve it from the drawer on Tuesday morning, she discovered the watch was missing. She stated she searched through the rest of her belongings to ensure she hadn’t misplaced the watch before contacting hotel management. The investigation is ongoing.
Later Friday night, Officers responded to a disturbance in progress at Walgreens. The manager explained that a woman, later identified as a store vendor, had caused a verbal disturbance and, when asked to leave the store, refused to do so. As Officers spoke with the woman, they learned she was wanted by the Manchester Police Department as a person of interest in an assault investigation. Manchester PD confirmed they wished to speak with her, and she was taken into custody. She was later transported to the St. Louis County Justice Center to await further action by their Officers.
On Saturday morning, a woman reported that she was driving eastbound in the 7800 block of Carondelet when another vehicle suddenly made an improper U-turn in front of her. She was unable to stop and struck the car’s rear driver’s side. She complained of sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Finally, Officers returned to the area Saturday night for a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident. A woman explained she had parked her vehicle in the 7700 block of Carondelet on Saturday evening. When she returned approximately five hours later, she discovered someone had crashed into her car, causing disabling damage. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
