For the reporting period of Monday, February 16th – Sunday, February 22nd, your CPD Officers responded to 419 calls for service. Officers handled 12 vehicle crashes and assisted other agencies 48 times. Among those calls were the following incidents:
Officers were called to the central business district on Monday afternoon after witnesses reported a man had urinated on a building. The Officers found the man nearby and arrested him for Exposing Himself, Urinating in Public, and Destruction of City Property. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
While investigating a separate matter on Monday, Officers learned that a man had active warrants for his arrest, including a Felony warrant for Harassment 1st degree through the Florissant Police Department and a probation violation warrant. Officers contacted the man by phone, and he agreed to turn himself in to the CPD. However, when Officers approached his vehicle in front of our department, the man sped away. The case was presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office, and an at-large warrant was issued for the man on a felony charge of Aggravated Fleeing, with a cash-only bond set at $100,000.00. The man was later taken into custody by another jurisdiction.
Officers responded to the Moorlands neighborhood on Monday night regarding a trespassing report. A resident explained he had been investigating a foul odor in the shared basement of his building when he discovered an unknown man standing in the stairwell. The man agreed to leave but informed the resident he would be back to retrieve his belongings. Officers recovered a bag of clothing but could not locate the man. At the time of our investigation, nothing appeared to have been stolen or disturbed within the building.
A CPD Traffic Officer was on patrol Tuesday night when he observed a suspicious vehicle in the Walgreens parking lot. The vehicle was backed into a handicap space but was not displaying a placard or a front license plate. Upon closer inspection, he noted the temporary tag on the rear of the car had expired in October of 2025. As the vehicle exited the parking lot, the Officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver and his passengers. While speaking with the group, he learned they had stolen several snack items from the store. The merchandise was recovered, and all three subjects were issued summonses for Shoplifting. They have an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
A traffic stop on the east end of town early on Wednesday morning resulted in a passenger’s arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance when the Officer observed the man attempting to conceal suspected narcotics in his backpack. The pills were seized as evidence and will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Crime Lab for analysis. Pending lab results, the case will be presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor for consideration.
Later that morning, Officers responded to the lobby of our department for a report of a woman causing a disturbance. Officers found the woman yelling in front of the municipal court window. Employees reported that the woman became agitated when they informed her they could not provide the services she requested. When Officers attempted to speak with her, the woman became increasingly erratic and refused to comply with their verbal orders. She was subsequently arrested for Giving False Information, Failure to Comply, and Resisting Arrest. The case has been forwarded to the City of Clayton Prosecuting Attorney for consideration.
While conducting a traffic stop just after 12 a.m. on Thursday, a CPD Traffic Officer learned the driver was wanted by the St. Louis County Police Department for Aggravated Fleeing. The warrant was confirmed, and the man was arrested. During a search of his vehicle, Officers recovered pills believed to be a controlled substance from the passenger’s belongings. The pills were seized as evidence, and the passenger was arrested. While in custody, the woman informed Officers she had concealed suspected cocaine in her clothing. The substance was also seized, and all evidence will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Crime Lab for analysis. Pending lab results, the case will be presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Trafficking 1st degree.
That afternoon, Officers responded to CVS for a disturbance in progress. Employees reported that a man had been aggressively panhandling in the parking lot and had refused to leave after they confronted him about harassing their customers. When the Officers asked the man to identify himself, he deliberately provided an incorrect spelling of his name. As their investigation continued, the Officers learned the man was wanted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for Assault of a Special Victim. The warrant was confirmed, and Officers arrested the man. He was trespassed from the store and has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court for Trespassing and Giving False Information to Police.
A few hours later, a man reported his equipment had been stolen from the interstate. He explained that he had been working in the southbound lanes of I-170 near Forest Park Parkway, had placed a robotic survey instrument on the shoulder, and had driven to the opposite side of the interstate to set up the remainder of his equipment. As he did so, he witnessed a man exit a blue SUV, remove his instrument from the roadway, and drive away. He described the thief as a white male, wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up. He stated the man had waved at him before placing the equipment in his SUV and fleeing the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Finally, Officers responded to a local hotel bar on Friday evening for a report of a woman trespassing. The hotel manager explained that the woman was loitering in the lobby and was no longer welcome on the property. As they spoke with her, Officers learned the woman had multiple warrants for her arrest for Trespassing and traffic charges. The warrants were confirmed as active, and the woman was arrested. During a subsequent search of her person, Officers discovered she had concealed a suspected controlled substance and drug paraphernalia in her clothing. All of the items were seized as evidence and will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Crime Lab for analysis. Pending lab results, the case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecutor for consideration.
