For the reporting period of Monday, March 9th – Sunday, March 15th, your CPD officers responded to 504 calls for service. Those calls included 10 vehicle crashes and 65 requests to assist other agencies. Among those calls were the following incidents:
While conducting a business check at IHOP early Monday morning, a CPD Officer noticed a man who appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with the engine running. When the Officer shined his flashlight into the vehicle, he observed a small plastic bag containing a white powdery substance in plain view on the passenger seat. Upon closer inspection, he observed the same substance on the driver’s face. Following a roadside investigation, the man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. During a subsequent search of his vehicle, Officers discovered suspected fentanyl capsules concealed in the center console. All items were seized as evidence and will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Crime Laboratory for analysis. Pending results, the case will be presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
Officers responded to the intersection of N. Central Ave. and Maryland Ave. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning. The woman stated she had been walking westbound across N. Central Ave. when she was struck. She could not recall whether or not she had been in the crosswalk at the time of the crash. The driver explained that she had been turning onto southbound N. Central from Maryland Ave. and that her front windshield had been fogged over, preventing her from seeing the pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Passersby may have observed several police vehicles in the area of Clayton Rd. and S. Brentwood Blvd. on Wednesday afternoon. CPD Officers were assisting the Ladue Police Department with an investigation into an apparent road-rage incident that occurred in their jurisdiction.
CPD Officers were on patrol in the area of Oak Knoll Park early Thursday morning when they noticed an SUV with a defective headlight. As they watched, the vehicle failed to maintain a single lane of traffic, prompting the officers to initiate a traffic stop. The driver explained she was working as a delivery driver and stated she had taken her eyes off the roadway to look at an address on her phone, which caused her to weave. As they spoke with her, Officers learned the woman had an arrest history that included several arrests for possession of a controlled substance. As they continued their investigation, the woman informed them she had stored Methamphetamine in her vehicle’s center console. Officers searched the vehicle and recovered three clear plastic bags containing a substance believed to be Methamphetamine. They were seized as evidence and will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Crime Laboratory for analysis. The woman was subsequently arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Once the lab results are available, the case will be presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
While patrolling the east end of town early Friday morning, a CPD Traffic Officer was alerted that a vehicle with a stolen license plate had just passed a Flock Safety camera in our jurisdiction. The Officer observed the license plate attached to a gray Chevrolet Cruze that was driving northbound on Big Bend Blvd. He conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, who stated he had recently purchased the vehicle and the plate had been affixed to the car at the time of the sale. Investigation revealed the plate had been reported stolen from St. Louis City. The plate was removed from the vehicle and packaged as evidence. The driver was issued a summons for Receiving Stolen Property and has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
Officers responded to a call for a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on Friday evening. A man reported he was turning onto Shaw Park Drive from S. Brentwood Blvd. when the glare from the sun temporarily obscured his vision and prevented him from seeing a vehicle traveling westbound on Shaw Park Drive through the intersection. He explained he had been unable to avoid striking the vehicle as they approached the ramp onto Forest Park Parkway. He could not describe the second vehicle but stated it had not stopped and was last seen merging onto the parkway. The reporting party was not injured in the crash. His vehicle sustained minor damage to the driver’s side front bumper and quarter panel and did not require a tow truck.
A CPD Officer was on patrol in the area of S. Hanley Rd. and Wydown Blvd. on Friday night when he attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations. The driver ignored the Officer’s emergency lights and siren and continued southbound until he was forced to stop due to traffic at a red light. When the Officer approached the driver and ordered him to place his vehicle in park and exit the SUV, the man continued to ignore his instructions. He was subsequently arrested for the traffic violations and for Failure to Obey Police. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
A CPD Officer was on patrol in the same area early Saturday morning when he observed a pickup truck speeding on S. Hanley Rd. He initiated a traffic stop and noted that the truck was not displaying any license plates. Through his investigation, he learned the driver was wanted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for Property Damage 1st Degree, a felony. The warrant was confirmed as active, and the man was arrested. During a subsequent search of the truck, Officers discovered suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia stored in the center console. The items were seized as evidence and will be submitted to the St. Louis County Crime Laboratory for analysis. Pending results, the case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney for consideration.
Later that day, Officers responded to the 6300 block of N. Rosebury regarding a theft report. The victim explained he had parked his vehicle in front of his home on Thursday evening. When he returned Saturday morning, he discovered someone had removed the spare tire from the rear of his SUV. While processing the vehicle for evidence, Officers noted fresh damage to the rear of the vehicle, suspected to have been caused by the removal of the tire. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
Officers responded to Forest Park Parkway at I-170 late on Saturday night for a single-vehicle crash with injuries. The driver explained she had been driving westbound on the parkway, approaching the interstate, when she hit the curb and lost control of her vehicle. She explained her SUV had flipped multiple times before coming to a rest on its side. She and her passenger both complained of leg pain and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment.
Finally, Officers responded with Clayton Fire Personnel to a report of a fire in the Moorlands Neighborhood on Sunday night. Firefighters discovered a fire was actively burning in an unoccupied condo unit that had been undergoing renovations. The building was evacuated, and the fire was safely extinguished. Thankfully, no one was injured.
