Publish Date:03/30/2026 3:52 PM

For the reporting period of Monday, March 23rd – Sunday, March 29th, your CPD officers responded to 489 calls for service. Those calls included 21 vehicle crashes and 60 requests to assist other agencies. Among those calls were the following incidents:

A traffic stop near the intersection of S. Hanley Rd. and Country Club Court early Monday morning resulted in the driver’s arrest after the Officer learned he had a suspended driver’s license. Additional investigation revealed that he had several outstanding warrants for his arrest, including an active felony warrant issued by the St. Louis County Police Department. He was issued summonses for his traffic violations and was transported to the St. Louis County Justice Center to await further action by the St. Louis County PD. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Later that morning, Officers responded to the intersection of Oleta and Clayton Rd. for a crash involving a bicyclist. The cyclist said he was riding his electric bicycle on the sidewalk and was struck by a car as he crossed the intersection. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The driver said she stopped at the stop sign and did not see the bicyclist before turning onto westbound Clayton Rd., where she struck him.

A traffic stop near S. Hanley and Bonhomme that afternoon led to the driver’s arrest when the Officer discovered the woman had two outstanding traffic warrants through our municipal court. She was transported to the CPD, where she was booked and released with a new court date.

Officers responded to the library on Tuesday morning to assist with a man who was causing a disturbance. Staff explained that the man had become disruptive by yelling to himself, and he was no longer welcome on the property. As the Officers attempted to remove him, the man became agitated and physically aggressive. He was subsequently arrested for Failure to Comply and Resisting Arrest. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

A short time later, Officers responded to a vehicle crash on the north end of town. One of the drivers explained she had been driving northbound on N. Hanley, near Westmoreland Ave., when she attempted to make a U-turn from the right-hand lane. As she began her turn, she collided with the front bumper of a vehicle traveling northbound in the left lane. The collision damaged her front wheel and fender, rendering her vehicle inoperable. It was later towed from the scene. Thankfully, neither driver was injured in the crash.

Later that day, the CPD Business Officer was notified that a man had stolen items from a café located in an office building in the 200 block of S. Bemiston. The incident was captured by surveillance videos, and the investigation continues.

After stopping a vehicle for an expired temporary license plate on Tuesday afternoon, a CPD Officer learned the driver was wanted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for Sexual Misconduct and Assault 4th degree. The warrant was confirmed, and the man was subsequently arrested. He was later transported to the St. Louis County Justice Center to await extradition by the SLMPD.

A traffic stop on Big Bend early Wednesday morning led to the driver’s arrest when Officers learned the woman had an active warrant for her failure to appear on charges through the St. Louis County Police Department. The warrant was confirmed as active, and the woman was transported to the St. Louis County Justice Center.

A man reported he had been driving southbound on I-170 late Wednesday morning when his vehicle was struck by another car. The driver of the striking vehicle did not stop to exchange information. Instead, the vehicle continued southbound toward the Eager Rd. exit. He explained that he followed the vehicle but lost sight of it when the driver turned southbound onto S. Brentwood from Eager Rd.

Officers later learned that the driver of the striking vehicle had driven to the Brentwood Police Department. She admitted she had been involved in a crash in our jurisdiction, but claimed she had not stopped to exchange information with the reporting party because she feared him. She was arrested for leaving the scene of a vehicle crash and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. She has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Just after 8 p.m. that night, Officers were notified that a pedestrian had been struck by a Metro Transit bus at the intersection of Forsyth Boulevard and S. Central Avenue. The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she died early Thursday morning. Preliminary information indicated the pedestrian was crossing S. Central Ave. in the crosswalk when she was struck by a Metro Transit bus turning onto southbound S. Central Ave. from westbound Forsyth Blvd. Metro Transit is cooperating with the investigation.

The cause and circumstances of the crash are being investigated with help from St. Louis County Police Department Accident Reconstruction Detectives. This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Clayton Police Department at (314)290-8444.

A traffic stop on S. Hanley later that night resulted in the driver’s arrest when Officers discovered he had an active warrant through our department. He was released with a new court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

A woman contacted the CPD on Thursday to report that someone had stolen and altered one of her personal checks. She explained she had mailed a check to her chiropractor on the 21st. When she checked her account on Thursday morning, she found that the check had been altered to be payable to someone she did not know. It is unclear when or where the check was compromised. The case has been forwarded to the United States Postal Inspectors for further investigation.

Late Thursday morning, a woman was seated in her parked car in the 900 block of Francis Place when she witnessed a woman back into another parked car. She stated the driver exited her car and quickly walked around the other vehicle before driving away without leaving a note. The witness provided Officers with a description of the striking vehicle and the license plate. Using that information, Officers located the woman at her home. She stated she had left the scene because she had not observed any damage to either vehicle. However, Officers determined that her vehicle had fresh damage that corresponded to the damage to the vehicle she had struck. She provided all appropriate contact and insurance information.

CVS employees reported that two subjects, a man and a woman, had stolen merchandise from the store on Friday afternoon. Responding Officers learned the pair had left the store with a shopping basket filled with items they had not paid for. They were last seen walking eastbound on Clayton Rd. toward IHOP and left the area before the Officers arrived on the scene. The investigation continues.

Officers responded to the first stolen vehicle report of the year on Sunday afternoon. The owner explained he had parked his car in the 8100 block of University on Saturday and left it unlocked with the keys inside. The car was last seen parked in front of his brother’s home shortly after midnight. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Finally, a woman reported her vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver as she turned onto Shepley from Big Bend Blvd. on Sunday evening. The striking vehicle, a black sedan, did not stop and was last seen heading south on Big Bend Blvd. The investigation continues.
