For the reporting period of Monday, June 8th – Sunday, June 14th, your CPD officers responded to 469 calls for service. Those calls included 21 vehicle crashes and 59 requests to assist other agencies. Among those calls were the following incidents:
Officers responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Big Bend and Clayton Rd. on Monday afternoon. A man explained he had been driving southbound on Big Bend when another vehicle suddenly turned into his lane. He stated he was unable to stop and crashed into the other vehicle. The second driver stated he had been attempting to turn onto Clayton Rd. from the northbound lanes and had misjudged the speed of the southbound vehicle. His vehicle was badly damaged and was towed from the scene. Thankfully, neither driver was injured in the crash.
That night, CVS employees reported a man had stolen laundry detergent from the store. He fled the store before Officers arrived and was last seen driving away in an older model Ford Taurus.
A woman reported she had parked her vehicle in the alleyway behind the 8100 block of Maryland Ave. on Tuesday morning. When she returned a few hours later, she discovered fresh damage on her rear bumper. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
On Thursday afternoon, a resident contacted the CPD to report a theft. She explained that she was moving out of state and suspected that the moving company had stolen several pieces of jewelry from her bedroom. She stated she had instructed the movers not to touch any items in her bedroom closet. However, when she entered her bedroom that afternoon, she discovered one of the movers packing the contents of her closet into boxes. When she confronted the man, he apologized for the confusion and left her home. She later learned the man had immediately driven away in his own vehicle without notifying his co-workers. Upon closer inspection of her closet, she realized her jewelry was missing.
Officers contacted the man by phone, and he admitted to taking the jewelry from the home and agreed to return to the scene. Instead, he parked several blocks away and walked through backyards to avoid the Officers, then discarded the stolen items in a plastic bag in the yard of a nearby home. He then called our Officer to tell him where he had left the items. When the Officers recovered the bag, they determined that all of the stolen items were accounted for. Officers are still attempting to locate the man, and the case will be presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
A resident contacted the CPD on Friday afternoon to report that someone had stolen his bicycle. He explained he had last seen the bike in the shared basement of his apartment building the week before. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
A woman flagged down a CPD Officer on Friday night to report that she had witnessed a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident. She explained that a tan Jeep had driven away after striking a two-door sedan in the 700 block of DeMun. A second witness described the driver as a female and stated she last saw the Jeep driving southbound toward Clayton Rd. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers were called to a local hotel on Friday night after a guest reported someone had stolen money from his room. He explained that the cash had been concealed in his backpack, which he had left in his room throughout the week. The investigation continues.
Finally, a woman reported to the CPD on Saturday night that someone had stolen a license plate from her vehicle. She stated she last recalled seeing the plate attached to her car at the beginning of the month, while she was out of state. No suspects or witnesses have been identified.
