From Monday, August 24th to Sunday, August 30th, your Clayton Police Department (CPD) Officers responded to 486 calls for service, including 20 vehicle crashes and 56 requests for our Officers to assist other agencies. Among those calls were the following incidents:
A resident contacted the CPD on Monday evening to report someone had rummaged through his vehicle. He explained he had parked his vehicle in the Davis Place neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, August 22nd. When he returned on Monday evening, he discovered that his center console had been opened and that the contents of his glove box were strewn across the front seat. Upon closer inspection, he believed the only thing missing from his vehicle was a key to his truck bed. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
Officers responded to Concordia Seminary on Wednesday after staff reported someone had been trespassing in a campus apartment building. A maintenance employee explained he had previously caught an unknown man inside a vacant apartment. When confronted about trespassing, the man had left. However, during a follow-up inspection, he found items suggesting someone had been living in the space without permission. Among those items was construction gear labeled with someone’s name. A computer inquiry of the name revealed it was the same man. While the officers were on the scene, the man returned, and they arrested him for trespassing. Through further investigation, they learned he had active warrants through our department for failure to appear on unrelated charges. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
While conducting a traffic stop on Thursday morning, a CPD officer learned the driver had an active warrant for her arrest through our department for speeding. The warrant was confirmed, and she was issued a new court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.
That evening, a man contacted the CPD to report someone had broken into his vehicle. He explained he had parked his vehicle in the parking lot at Straub’s and entered the store. When he returned approximately five minutes later, he discovered someone had broken out one of his windows and stolen his backpack. No suspects or witnesses have been identified. The investigation continues.
Passersby may have noticed several police vehicles near 8000 block of Clayton Rd. late Saturday night. CPD Officers assisted the Richmond Heights PD after a large group of juveniles caused a disturbance at a hotel and in the hotel parking lot.
Finally, Officers responded to multiple noise complaints over the weekend and discovered crews conducting various construction activities without proper after hours/weekend work permits.
