Roles and Duties

Ordinance No. 5354 passed on July 22, 1997 established The Clayton Recreation, Sports and Wellness Commission, and the formation of its nonprofit Corporation. The six members are appointed to the Board of Directors of the Commission. Two directors are members of the Clayton School District's Board of Education, two directors are members of the City of Clayton's City Council Representatives, and two directors are at-large Directors. The Superintendent of Schools of the District and the City Manager of the City serve as non-voting, ex-officio directors. Each director serves a term of three years.

The Commission, with the approval of the City of Clayton and the Clayton School District, was charged with facilitating the financing and construction of the Center of Clayton. The Commission is also charged with overseeing the operation of the Center, a joint use athletic/recreational facility in the City of Clayton, for the benefit of and use by the City and the District and their respective constituents.

The Clayton Recreation, Sports and Wellness Commission elects its own President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Meeting Information
The Commission meets at 8:30 a.m. on the third Friday of the second month of the quarter. Meetings are held in a hybrid format (in person and via Zoom), with the Zoom link included in the agenda.
