The City charges businesses located within Clayton an annual license fee based on gross sales (minimum fee of $50) or a set fee dependent upon the business type. The City also collects fees for licenses to sell liquor and for vending machines. All fees are collected annually and the revenue from these fees is allocated to the General Fund and used for general City operations.

The majority of revenue from this source is from fees related to the operation of a business within the City. Approximately 90% of this revenue is from Business Licenses fees, with the remainder generated from liquor and other types of licenses.

Change in this revenue is based on commercial retail growth and occupancy rates. The City anticipates increasing levels of economic growth over the next few years and therefore expects revenue from this source to steadily increase.
