The City of Clayton is committed to promoting the success, health and wellbeing of our community. In 2025, the City Council passed Ordinance 6919, enacting benchmarking requirements for covered property.
Benchmarking occurs when energy and water use data are utilized to compare building efficiencies and find opportunities for improvement. The ordinance intends to find cost and energy savings, raise awareness on building energy use, and more. Property owners will report building data with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, a free software that tracks and evaluates building performance, trends, and finances.
